The Bombardier CRJ900 can be traced back to the Canadair Challenger business jet. In 1974, American inventor Bill Lear developed the LearStar 600, a low-wing business jet designed to fly long distances. Lear, however, needed more resources to manufacture the plane and sought the help of Canadian aerospace manufacturer Canadair.
